Located in San Luis Obispo County, California, Lighthouse is a good beach break that is very consistent but quite powerful, known for snapping boards regularly. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a sand bottom. You’ll need to cross a private field to access the break, which keeps the crowds down.
What are the best surf conditions for Lighthouse?
Gets good between chest-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard then step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 in the summers when water temperatures rise to 15 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 12 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
