Located in Ocean City, Maryland, Assateague is a fun beachie that breaks over some well defined sandbars. The waves here are pretty easy to surf, mushier on the outside and hollower as they move in. They break for up to 100 meters providing some great sections for cruising or turning.
What are the best surf conditions for Assateague?
Gets good from chest high to overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here or a shortboard when bigger. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will always have a crew on it (7/10). The best winds are offshore from the West. The best swells come from the East or Southeast. Works on mid to low tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temps rise to 25 degrees. In winter a 5/4 is necessary for the 5-degree water. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
