Located in West Sumatra, Indonesia, Bay of Plenty is a consistent bay that houses three breaks. All are excellent quality. The first is an outside left barrel that breaks over a very shallow reef, found on the South side. The outside right is found on the Northern end and is a bit mellower but still offers a good barrel over a reef. The inside left needs a massive swell to start working but offers up some good clean waves when the conditions line up. All break over coral reef for up to 150 meters.
What are the best surf conditions for Bay of Plenty?
Gets good between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard, shortboard, then step up as the size increases. These breaks are perfect for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Southwest. Something will be working on any tide.
The water temperatures fluctuate between 27 and 29 year round. Boardshorts or a bikini will do the trick all year. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
