Located in Yorkshire-Lincolnshire, England, Scarborough – South Bay is not a bad beach break that offers up some great, easygoing sections for longboarding or beginners. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a sand bottom. On rare days it can get hollow and speedy.
What are the best surf conditions for South Bay?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard for the days when it gets a bit punchier. The surf here is pretty consistent (7/10) and will usually be super crowded (9/10). The best winds are from the West. The best swells are from the East, North, Northeast, and Southeast. Works best on a higher tide.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 16 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 7 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
