Located in Yorkshire-Lincolnshire, England, Filey is not a bad beach break that offers up some good waves when other spots are a bit stormy. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. Waves are usually bigger on the southern side of the beach.
What are the best surf conditions for Filey?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and shortboard when the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here isn’t the most consistent (4/10) and can be a bit busy at times (5/10). The best winds are from the Southwest. The best swells are from the East, North, Northeast, and Southeast. Works on a mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 16 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 7 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
