Located in South Devon, England, Bantham is a quality beach break that consistently offers up good banks providing decent shape for performance manoeuvres. The waves here require some surf ability and can break for up to 100 meters over a sand bottom. This is a class beach break with decent sandbanks aided by the River Avon. Expect to find a peak in the middle of the beach and. a right leading into the river mouth. Strong rips when big.
What are the best surf conditions for Bantham?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here if smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and is always busy (8/10) due to Bantham being one of Devon’s premier surf spots. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West. The best winds are from the Northeast. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 17 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 9 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
