The area, which offers about 15 surf spots within a 10km radius, doesn’t lack of waves. Portugal is known for its consistency year round and the Peniche area is no exception to the rule. However, the Atlantic swells get bigger in Autumn and Winter (from October to April), with an average size of 8-10ft and offshore winds. The climate is one of the most pleasant on Europe’s Atlantic seaboard, even if the water remains a bit fresh during Summer.
Due to its particular geographic shape, the peninsula offers a nice flexibility to the surfers. The various spots work with different wind and swell direction, and depending on your taste and skills, you will always find a wave to surf. The north side of the peninsula is exposed and more consistent, while the south side is sheltered.
