Found in between Forster and Port Macquarie in New South Wales, Old Bar is a fun beach break that rolls over a sandy bottom. The waves here are straightforward to surf and can break for up to 100 meters. On a good day barrels are the name of the game.
What are the best surf conditions for Old Bar?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard on the smaller days and a shortboard when bigger. All levels of surfers can find something for themselves here. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) but can get busy on weekends (5/10). Offshore winds come from the West, the best swells come from the Southeast, and it works best on a medium to high tide.
We recommend wearing a springsuit in the summer with the warmest temperature hitting 21 degrees in January, In winter we recommend a 3/2 wetsuit as temps drop to 16 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
