Located in St. Francis Bay, South Africa, Port Elizabeth is a fun series of reef breaks around the fence at Cape Recife that offers up some rippable walls both left and right. The waves here can be challenging and break for up to 100 meters (328 ft) over a rock and sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Port Elizabeth?
Gets good between chest-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the northwest and west. The best swells are from the east, south, and southeast. Works on a high tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in summer when water temperatures rise to 23°C (73.4°F). In the winter a 3/2 might be best as temperatures drop to about 19°C (66.2°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
