Located in the Central Mentawai Islands, Lance’s Left is an excellent reef break that offers up steep walls for ripping into as well as the occasional barrel section. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 200 meters over a coral reef. This spot is way less intimidating than it’s brother Lance’s Right, but can still be scary on bigger days when getting caught inside is common and harrowing.
What are the best surf conditions for Lance’s Left?
Gets good between chest high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step-up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will always have a crew nowadays (7/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the South and Southwest. Works on a mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures rise to 29 degrees in the summer and drop to 25 only in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
