Located in the Central Mentawai Islands, Indonesia, Icelands is an excellent deepwater reef break that offers up a monster of a left hand barrel when the conditions line up. The waves here are heavy, unpredictable, and demand respect, breaking for up to 100 meters over a coral reef. Know your limits.
What are the best surf conditions for Icelands?
Gets good between chest high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard, step up, then rhino chaser as the size picks up. This break is best for intermediates or advanced surfers. The surf here is not the most consistent (4/10) and will not be super busy (5/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Southwest. Works on a medium to high tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year round. Water temps fluctuate between 29 and 25. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
