What are the best surf conditions for South Del Mar?
Gets good between waist-high and overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard if the size arrives. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here sometimes has a wave (4/10) and will get quite crowded (8/10). The best winds are from the East, and this spot is a bit wind exposed. The best swells are from the Southwest. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer here when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
