Located in South Orange County, San Clemente State Park has a decent beach/reef set-up that offers up some fun waves in the summers. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand and rock bottom. This spot often sections out, but can be zippy and hollow when on.
What are the best surf conditions for San Clement State Park?
Gets good between waist-high and overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level of surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will always have a crew (7/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the South or Southwest. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 when water temperatures drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
