Indicator Surf Spot

Located in Palos Verdes, Los Angeles County, California, Indicators is a fun point break that offers up a high-quality left broken up into three distinct sections. Lower and Middles, the inside sections, are usually hollow and powerful, good to a little overhead. Uppers is the outside take-off spot and can hold a bunch of size up to 20 foot, bring a gun if there is size in the water. I wouldn’t recommend coming here in general, locals are overly protective of what they might call a world-class wave (come on guys it ain’t indo, grow up), and although violence has decreased over the years, slashed tires, people being chased out of the lineup, and fist fights are still pretty damn common. At the minimum, you’ll be burned often.

What are the best surf conditions for Indicator?

Gets good between chest-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller then a shortboard then gun for the outside sections. This wave is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will get crowded with those locals (9/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Northwest. Works on a mid-tide best.

We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 when water temperatures drop to 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
