Located in Sitka Alaska, Sandy Beach offers up some mellow sections great for easing into the cold water of Alaska. The beach break here breaks for up to 50 meters over a rock and bottom. The swells are filtered by outer islands so it’s generally small or flat here.
What are the best surf conditions for Sandy Beach?
Gets good between waist-high and overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is good for all levels of surfer. The surf here sometimes has a wave (4/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the South and Southwest. Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing a 5/4 year-round with hood and booties. The temperatures range from 12 degrees in August to 4 degrees in winter. See the temperature chart for more data on this.
