Located in Northern Cornwall, England, Porthcothan Bay is a fun beach break that offers up some decent performance sections when the conditions line up. The waves here are not always easy to surf and break for up to 150 meters over a sand bottom. Check this spot when others in the area are big and offshore, it should be working here.
What are the best surf conditions for Porthcothan Bay?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here does not break too too often (3/10) and will be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on low tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 17 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best in the 9 degree water. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
