Located in Newquay, England, Crantock is a fun rivermouth sandbar that offers up some decent sections for performance surfing as well as cruising. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. Of course, wave quality depends on how the river has shaped the banks.
What are the best surf conditions for Crantock?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard if the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and will also usually have a crew (6/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on a low to mid tide best.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 17 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 9 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
