Located in Western Cornwall, Penhale is a fun and long stretch of beach break that offers up some decent waves for turns and hacks. The waves here are pretty straightforward to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. Check Penhale Corner to the north at lower tides and bigger swell for a peeling right-hander off of Ligger Point.
What are the best surf conditions for Penhale?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and will generally be uncrowded due to the size of the beach (4/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 17 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 9 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
