Located in San Luis Obispo in Central California, Cayucos is a decent pier and beach break over a sand bottom. The waves here are pretty straightforward to surf and break for up to 100 meters providing generally hollow sections for grabbing some barrels.
What are the best surf conditions for Cayucos?
Gets good between waist-high to a few feet overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when it’s small and a shortboard when the size picks up. Cayucos is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and will always have a crew (7/10). Offshore winds come from the North. Works best on a medium and high tide. The best swells come from the South, Southwest, and West.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit in the summer here when the water temperatures rise to 15 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 could be the move when water temperatures drop to 12 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
