Found in Santa Barbara County in Southern California, Leadbetter Beach is a fun, righthand point break that provides some long sections perforect for cruising and styling on a longboard. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 200 meters over a rock and sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Leadbetter Beach?
Gets good between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here most of the time, but a shortboard if it’s very big. Leadbetter has something for all levels of surfers. It isn’t the most consistent (5/10) and is usually crowded (7/10), although the vibes are positive. The best winds come from the North. The best swells come from the Northwest, South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides, but best on a high.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 17 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit with temps dropping to 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
