Located in Western Oaxaca, Mexico, La Punta is the slightly mellower spot in Puerto Escondido that offers up a still powerful left-hand point break at the Southern end of Playa Zicatela. The point is known the be fast and strong, with some makeable sections good for manoeuvres. The waves here are challenging and break for up to 200 meters over a rock and sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for La Punta?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard then step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will get insanely crowded (9/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 31 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 might be necessary when water temperatures plunge to 16 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
