Located in Western Oaxaca, Mexico, Colotepec is a fun stretch of beach breaks sculpted by river mouths that dredge up sand leading to some rippable waves. Generally a little smaller than Puerto Escondido, these spots still pack a punch over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Colotepec?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard then step up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the North. the best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 31 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 might be necessary when water temperatures plunge to 16 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
