The wave at Mundaka is a fast and hollow left-hand barrel, breaking over a shallow sandbar and the strong river current, providing a challenge for even the most experienced surfers. Exiting the water can also be tricky, as surfers need to paddle back out through the same area they entered, timing it with the incoming sets to avoid getting caught inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"history-of-surfing-at-mundaka\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"History_of_Surfing_at_Mundaka\"><\/span>History of Surfing at Mundaka<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Mundaka&#8217;s surfing history dates back to the 1960s when a group of Basque surfers discovered the wave&#8217;s potential. However, it wasn&#8217;t until the 1980s that Mundaka gained international recognition when it was included in the World Surfing Championship tour.
