Located in Southern Peru, Tiro Alto is a fun shore break that needs a smaller swell to deliver well-shaped barrels. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom. Very popular with tourists, but not so much with surfers.
What are the best surf conditions for Tiro Alto?
Tiro Alto gets good between waist-high and overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here. This break is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 22°C (72°F). In the winter, a 4/3 wetsuit is best as water temps drop to about 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
