Located in Southern Peru, Punta de Bombon is a fun beach break that offers a setup similar to Tiro Alto but with a river mouth that helps shape the sand, creating rippable A-frames. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom. Even at size, which washes out the bars, beginners can walk out and catch the whitewater.
What are the best surf conditions for Punta de Bombon?
Punta de Bombon gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller, and a shortboard then a step up as the size increases. This break is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here is consistent (8/10) and will get busy at times (5/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 22°C (72°F). In the winter, a 4/3 wetsuit is best as water temps drop to about 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
