Located in Southern Peru, Playa Platanales is a fun and isolated beach break that offers a range of waves depending on the wind and swell. It can be mushy and perfect for beginners or provide spitting barrels. The waves here have the potential to be quite challenging and break for up to 100 meters (328 feet) over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Playa Platanales?
Playa Platanales gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller, and a shortboard then step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 22°C (72°F). In the winter, a 4/3 wetsuit is best as water temps drop to about 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
