Located in Southern Peru, El Colegio is a fun reef break that offers rippable lefts and rights just in front of the university’s stadium. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters (328 feet) over a rocky bottom. This is a very approachable reef spot.
What are the best surf conditions for El Colegio?
El Colegio gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard, then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 22°C (71.6°F). In the winter, a 4/3 wetsuit is best as water temps drop to about 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
