Located in Southern Peru, Caleta Sama is a fun left-hand point that needs a bigger swell to work, throwing out powerful walls of water when it does. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters (328 feet) over a rock bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Caleta Sama?
Caleta Sama gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard, then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the South and Southwest. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 22°C (71.6°F). In winter, a 4/3 wetsuit is best as water temps drop to about 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
