Located in Costa Verde, Peru, La Herradura (right in Lima) is an excellent point break that offers up a powerful wall, the best in Lima, perfect for experienced surfers. The waves here require your A-Game and will break into three different sections for up to 500 meters (approximately 1640 feet) over a boulder-covered bottom. It will start with a big workable wall before ripping into a fast barrel section. Crowds will be a big problem here; it should be a surprise not to be dropped in on. Robberies are also common in the surrounding area, so take care.
What are the best surf conditions for La Herradura?
La Herradura gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard, a step up, and then gun as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediates when smaller and advanced surfers only when bigger. The surf here is somewhat consistent (4/10) and will get insanely crowded with a competitive crew (10/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West. Works on a low to mid tide.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 22°C (about 72°F). In the winter, a 3/2 wetsuit is best when water temperatures drop to 16°C (about 61°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
