Located in South Piura, Peru, Punta Tur is a quality left-hand point break in a super remote desert location that offers up powerful, rippable, and hollow walls split into a few different sections. The waves here are heavy, the currents strong, and help far away. The break will go for up to 400 meters over a rock and sand bottom. You’ll need a 4×4 and plenty of supplies.
What are the best surf conditions for Punta Tur?
Punta Tur gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then stepping up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is not the most consistent (4/10) and will be uncrowded (2/10). The best winds are from the east. The best swells are from the south, southwest, and west. Works on all tides but low incoming is best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 25°C (77°F). In the winter, a spring suit is best when water temperatures drop to 21°C (70°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
