Located in Iquique, Chile, Punta Una is a quality reef with both a right and left that are basically air-drops into stand-up barrels. Best suited for bodyboarders, really. The waves here are heavy and break for up to 50 meters over a rock reef.
What are the best surf conditions for Punta Una?
It gets good between head high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard, and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will generally have at least a crew on it (7/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, South, and West. It works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini, plus a wetsuit top in strong winds, in summer with the warmest water temperature being a warm 23°C (73°F) in January. In winter, we recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit, with temperatures being a brisk 16°C (61°F)! See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
