Located in Iquique, Chile, Punta Dos is a quality reef that offers up both lefts and rights that lurch quickly over a shallow reef offering up powerful and explosive barrels. These waves will punish you if your skills are not up for it, breaking for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over an uncompromising rock bottom. Popular with bodyboarders.
What are the best surf conditions for Punta Dos?
Gets good between chest-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, West, and South. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini, plus a wetsuit top in strong winds, in summer with the warmest water temperature a warm 23°C (73.4°F) in January. In winter, we recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit with temps being a brisk 16°C (60.8°F)! See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
