Located in Antofagasta, Chile, Ram5 is a fun left-hand point that throws up powerful walls of water. The waves here are challenging and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a rock bottom. The waves break very close to the rocky point, making entry and exit difficult. The military owns the piece of land facing the break, but there are ways in.
What are the best surf conditions for Ram5?
It gets good between head high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will usually have a crew on it (6/10). However, despite this crowd scoring, it is often reported as crowded. The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, South, Southwest, and West. It works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a springsuit, in summer with the warmest water temperature at a pleasant 21°C (70°F) in January. In winter, we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit with temps being a brisk 15°C (59°F)! See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
