Located in Antofagasta, Chile, La Puntilla is a fun left-hand reef break that offers up challenging and sectional waves with rippable sections. The break is challenging, and the waves will break for up to 100 meters (328 feet) over a rock bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for La Puntilla?
It gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard, then step up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is very consistent (8/10) and will generally have a crew, although the sectional nature helps with this (7/10). Watch out for a bit of city pollution. The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, South, Southwest, and West. It works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a springsuit, in summer with the warmest water temperature at a pleasant 21°C (70°F) in January. In winter, we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit, with temps being a brisk 15°C (59°F)! See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
