Located in Antofagasta, Chile, Hornitos is an exposed but quality beach break that offers up some rippable peaks when the conditions line up. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom. It can get blown out very easily.
What are the best surf conditions for Hornitos?
It gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is very consistent (8/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Southwest. It works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a springsuit, in summer with the warmest water temperature at a pleasant 21°C (69°F) in January. In winter, we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit, with temperatures being a brisk 15°C (59°F)! See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
