Located in Santa Catarina, Brazil, Joaquina is an excellent beach break that offers up thick, powerful peaks more days than not. The waves here can be challenging and break for up to 100 meters over a sand bottom. One of the better beach breaks in Brazil, bigger days can be a morale breaker, but the sandbanks handle size well.
What are the best surf conditions for Joaquina?
It gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard, then a step up as the size increases. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will get super crowded on weekends but not so much on weekdays (7/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the East, South, and Southeast. It works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 26°C (79°F). In the winter, a 3/2 wetsuit is best when water temperatures drop to 19°C (66°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
