Located on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, Diamond Head is a collection of a few quality reef breaks perfect for practising turns and hacks on the Southeastern edge of the island. The waves here are not always easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over coral reefs. The Southern and Eastern exposures make this one of the most consistent spots in Southern Oahu. Generally ups the size of the waves a bit compared to nearby spots.
What are the best surf conditions for Diamond Head?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is very consistent (8/10) and will usually have a crew (6/10). The best winds are from the East, North, Northeast, and Northwest depending on the reef you pick. The best swells are from the South, Southeast, and Southwest. Works on a low to mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round here. Water temperatures range from 27 to 24. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
