Located in Southern North Carolina, Holden Beach is an alright beach break that breaks over a shifting sand bottom. The waves here are easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters, providing some great sections for cruising as well as some opportunities for turns and hacks. Faces South, will not pick up any Northern swells.
What are the best surf conditions for Holden Beach?
Gets good from waist high to overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard when the size picks up. This beach is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here does not break very often (3/10) and can be crowded in the summers (6/10). The best winds are North. The best swells are from the South, Southeast, or massive from the East. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 28 degrees. In winter the temps plunge to 14 degrees, so a 4/3 is best. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
