Located on the Outer Banks in North Carolina, Rodanthe Pier is a fun beach break that breaks over a sand bottom. This wave is really good on its day and many consider it a regional classic. The waves here can be a bit heavy and break for up to 100 meters fast and steep, throwing out barrels mos of the time. Fisherman here don’t like surfers, don’t surf close to the pier.
What are the best surf conditions for Rodanthe Pier?
Gets good from head high to triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or step up here when it is good. This break is best for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and might be busy during the summer months (5/10). Offshores are any wind with some West. The best swells are Northeast, East, and Southeast ones. Works on all tides depending on the swell and bars.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 28 degrees in August. In winter a 5/4 is best because water temperatures drop to around 12 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
