Located in Long Island, New York, Hither Hills State Park is not a bad surf spot that breaks over a sandy bottom. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters providing fun sections for manoeuvres. Crowded in the summer, mostly empty for the rest of the year.
What are the best surf conditions for Hither Hills State Park?
Gets good from waist high to head high. We recommend riding your longboard here when smaller and your shortboard when bigger. This beach will accommodate all levels of surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and can get quite crowded in the summer (8/10). The best winds are from the Northwest, the best swells from the Southeast. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temps rise to 23 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 with hood, booties, and gloves is best when the water temperatures drop to 4 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
