Located in Ocean County, New Jersey, Holyoke is a fun left jetty break that peels over a well-developed sandbar. The waves here are not the hardest to surf except for the hollow take off and break for up to 200 meters providing some great sections for carves and hacks down the line. Watch out for a heavy current that leads to constant paddling but also spreads out the lineup.
What are the best surf conditions for Holyoke?
Gets good from waist high to double overhead. A longboard is great here when the surf is smaller and a shortboard is best when bigger. Intermediate and advanced surfers will find the most success here. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and can get quite crowded due to the small takeoff zone (8/10). Offshore winds come from the West. Best swells come from the Northeast, other directions generally close out. Works best on a low to mid tide incoming.
We recommend wearing either boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 24 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 wetsuit is required to surf when the water temperatures plunge to 5 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
