Located in Monmouth County, New Jersey, The Cove is a fun, sand-bottomed right point. The waves here are pretty straightforward to surf and break for up to 200 meters providing long walls for all kinds of manoeuvres or just cruising. This spot is much better than 1st parking lot as the natural sand point holds up. Occasionally there is a small left. Close to NYC, so beware of commercial pollution in the water.
What are the best surf conditions for The Cove?
Get good from waist high to triple overhead. A longboard is great here when the swell is down and a shortboard is best when the swell is up. The Cove is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and is usually very crowded (8/10). Offshore winds blow from the West. The lower the tide the better. South and Southeast swells are best, but it will break on East and Northeast ones as well.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temps rise to 23 degrees. In winter a 5/4 is best when the temps drop to around 4 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
