Located in Rhode Island, Matunuck is a collection of three reef breaks that peelover a cobblestone and boulder covered bottom. All of these waves are good and require a little bit of surf skill to do well on. They break for up to 200 meters providing some excellent, rippable wall sections.
What are the best surf conditions for Matunuck?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard when the size steps up. This wave is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and will always be crowded (7/10). The best winds are from the North. The best swells are from the East, South, and Southeast. Works on all tides, but fattens up a bit on higher ones.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temps rise to 21 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 5/4 when the water temperatures drop to 1 degree. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
