Located in Oceanside, Southern California, Oceanside is a fun beach break that breaks over a sand bottom. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters providing fun sections for manoeuvres. Be aware that the locals here can be unfriendly and car break-ins are not uncommon.
What are the best surf conditions for Oceanside?
Gets good between waist high and triple overhead, although it will be difficult to find peaky waves at that size. A shortboard is good here when there is some size, but any craft will work depending on the day. Beginners thru advanced surfers will find something on tap here for them. The surf here is quite consistent (8/10) but can get crowded (8/10). Offshore winds come from the Northeast. The best swell directions are South and Southwest. Lower tides increase hollowness, and high tide creates mush burgers. Best on mid to low.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees in July. In winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit when water temps drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
