Located in Southern Orange County in Southern California, Rockpile is a quality reef break that breaks over a boulder covered bottom. Part of Laguna Beach, this wave is dangerous and breaks for up to 50 meters providing great sections for turns and hacks.
What are the best surf conditions for Rockpile/Heisler Park?
Gets good between overhead and triple overhead. A shortboard is best here, but bring a step up if it is a big swell. Only intermediate and advanced surfers need to check the surf here. The surf is pretty consistent (6/10) and can get quite crowded (8/10). The local crew can be quite aggressive, do not drop in. The best winds are offshore from the Northeast. The best swell direction from the South or Southwest. Needs a high tide to work well.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temps drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
