Located in Southern Orange County, Southern California, Morro Beach is a quality reef break that peels across a rock and sand bottom. The wave here can be a bit challenging. It breaks for about 50 meters quite quickly, providing great sections for turns and hacks.
What are the best surf conditions for Morro Beach?
Gets good between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here although a longboard will work when it is small. Morro beach is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is consistent but only in the summer (5/10) and is accordingly crowded in the summer (7/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells come from the South and Southwest. Needs a mid-tide to work well.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer here when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 wetsuit will work best when the water temperatures drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
