Located in South Bay, Los Angeles, Southern California, Santa Monica Municipal Pier (SMMP) is a fun break that rolls over a sand bottom next to the pier. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for 50 meters providing great sections for manoeuvres and cruising. Be aware of the constant pollution.
What are the best surf conditions for Santa Monica Municipal Pier?
Gets good from waist high to overhead. We recommend riding a longboard in the smaller mush and shortboard when bigger. SMMP can provide great waves for all levels of surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and will always have a crew (7/10). The best winds are from the Northeast, works best on a low tide, and the best swells are from the Southwest and West.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when the water temperature rises to 19 degrees. In the winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 when the water temps drop to 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
