Located in Northern Los Angeles County, Southern California, Chart House Rights (in front of Chart House Restaurant) is a decent reef break that speeds across a shallow, boulder-filled bottom. The waves here are not for beginners, breaking fast and hollow for up to 50 meters. Very shallow reef here and the fact that it is best on low tide does not help.
What are the best surf conditions for Chart House Rights?
Gets good from waist high to a little overhead. Shortboards are the only real choice here. Beginners should go elsewhere, this spot is best for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is not very consistent (4/10) and has a small take-off zone that does not handle crowds well (8/10). Needs a smaller swell from the South, Southwest, or West to start working. The best winds are offshore from the North. The lower the tide the better.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer here when water temperatures rise to 19 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when the water temps drop to 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
