North of Santa Cruz in Central California is Davenport Landing. Davenport is a fun left-hand reef break that peels over a rocky bottom. The waves here can be a bit challenging to surf, and break for up to 100 meters serving up hollow sections for tubes.
What are the best surf conditions for Davenport Landing?
Gets good between head high and triple overhead. We recommend a longboard when it’s small and a shortboard when it gets a bit bigger. The waves here are best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. It is a pretty consistent spot (5/10) and will be crowded on weekends (7/10). It is best in the mornings with no wind but offshore comes from the Northeast. The best swells come from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. It will work best on lower tides.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 in the summer here when water temperatures rise to around 15 degrees. In the winter we recommend wearing a 5/4 wetsuit when water temperatures drop to around 12 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
