Located in South Bay, Los Angeles, Southern California, Venice Beach is a quality beach break on its day that crashes over sandbars off the beach. The waves here are kinda heavy when good, putting out 50-meter barrels for those taking off deep.
What are the best surf conditions for Venice Beach?
Gets good between waist high and a little overhead. We recommend a shortboard here due to the steepness of the waves. Venice Beach is best for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will be crowded with an unfriendly local crew (8/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. Works best on an outgoing swell. Needs a big West or Northwest swell to work.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19 degrees. In the winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit when the water drops to 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
